Overview

The post holder will be responsible for providing effective, holistic information and advice service with a main focus on income maximisation and money/debt advice. They will offer a high quality advice on benefits, debt, employment, housing, consumer, family related issues. They will increase the accessibility of the bureau by offering the outreach service in the local area as well as operating within evenings and offering Saturday clinics. They will act as a Gateway to specialist Services: MAS, Energy Advice Project. ASAP, AFTAR, AMAP, PASS, Kinship Care etc.

Main Role/Responsibilities

• To provide an independent, free, impartial and confidential advice, information and advocacy service, to Association standards, to assist individuals and families to deal with poverty related issues affecting their lives (deal with benefit-, employment, housing-, debt, consumer, family, utilities etc. related enquiries).

• To assist in the provision of money advice and debt rescheduling service.

• To assess client’s problems by conducting one to one financial health checks, benefit checks, income maximisation and debt advice.

• To identify social policy issues affecting clients and inform the Social Policy co-ordinator of these.

• To carry a small caseload of complex casework where trainee advisers can learn from working collaboratively on the casework – eg debt/benefits cases.

• To provide On the Job training to new trainees.

• Refer clients internally or externally.

• Establish and maintain effective and efficient administration systems.

• Use IT for statistical recording, record keeping and document production.

• Carry out administrative tasks related to the job.

• Abide by health and safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.

• Carry out any other appropriate tasks requested by the manager, to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service.

• Adhere to the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice Bureau service and the good practices and policies of Motherwell & Wishaw Citizens Advice Bureau which include those contained within the Staff handbook; the Bureau’s Dignity Charter; Information Assurance Handbook for staff and volunteers; the Data Protection Act guidelines; Computer Usage Guidelines and other policies and guidance relating to the safe and appropriate use of information technology.

• Any other task that is determined to be reasonably requested of this new and developing post.

Person specification
1. Excellent communication and organizational skills

2. Work experience and competence in the use of:

Computer applications – Word Processing,

Database, spreadsheets, desk top publishing, e-mail,

PowerPoint, Mail merge etc within a Windows environment

Good Interpersonal Skills

Ability to manage your own workload and work on your own initiative

Ability to work as part of a team
